Living left-handed in a right-handed body
A personal note to subscribers.
I have written very little for a long time. My apologies.
Over a year ago I fell, jammed my shoulder, and lost the use of my right arm. I have not been able to use a keyboard and mouse effectively since then.
After a shot and months of PT, we chose reverse arthroplasty, rebuilt the shoulder, and went back to therapy. That’s been 10 months now. In the meantime my back collapsed and I ended up in spinal surgery, after weeks of almost no sleep.
Since the injury, I can no longer do many normal activities:
Writing
Publishing
Video Production
Photography
Book Design
Graphic Design
Software Development
Website Management
Tech Support
Ham Radio
Language learning
Music
Travel
Sports
Putting on socks
Using a fork and spoon
Wearing normal clothes
Home repairs and maintenance
Stealing food from my grandson’s plate
——— The list is endless.
I offer you two of life’s core principles:
- Do what you can while you can.
The time will arrive suddenly when you can’t .
- Then …
Start where you are,
use what you have, and
do what you can.
The superb woodturner Tom Enloe pointed out that everyone is born right-handed, and only the great overcome it. I need lessons!
So much has happened in the world over the last year and a half that I would love to be exploring with you. I will be back when I can. In the meantime thank you for the support, and may God keep you safe in the palm of his hand!
